Acne? You are not alone!

Over 600 million people worldwide suffer from Acne. It is considered the 8th most prevalent diseases in the world.

Acne causes many problems to those who suffer from it including reducing self-confidence, creating permanent skin scarring and significant stress on the body.

Acne is caused by the hair follicles becoming plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Acne can occur in many forms such as whiteheads, blackheads or pimples and, affects many within their puberty age however still effects many of all ages. Most who suffer from acne will find that it appears on many parts of the skin such as the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders.

Many factors that occur within the environment around you can cause the acne to worsen. These factors include:

Hormones: Hormones fluctuate between boys and girls throughout puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make for sebum (the oily secretion of sebaceous glands). In addition, hormones relating to pregnancy and oral contraceptives can also affect the sebum production.

Certain Medications: Certain medications can cause an influx of acne or plugging of the follicles. These medications include drugs containing corticosteroids, testosterone or lithium.

Diet: Certain dietary factors including skim milk and carbohydrate-rich foods such as breads, bagels or chips may worsen acne.

Stress: Stress is one of the many factors that directly contribute to worsening acne. Stress contains the hormone CRH that causes the Sebum-producing cells to become unregulated, allowing them the become oily and plugged.
